A wealth of great guitar music from Lawrence Johnson -a great artist and a generous man… The Complete Solo Guitar Music of Fernando Sor, (+ 8 Fantasias by Fuenllana, 25 Short works by Segovia and 10 additional works of Bach etc.) Lawrence Johnson, Guitarist http://crgrecordings.com/catalog-new.html  In this first book of three, Mark Lewisohn chronicles the Beatles years 1958 though 1962. When I was first was told about this book I said “if I read about Ringo bringing a suitcase full of baked beans to India again, I’ll scream!” … this book covers new ground and is unlike any Beatles book I’ve read. I was on page 500 and Pete Best was still in the band! Fascinating and comprehensive. I totally recommend it to any Beatles fan.  Great record! Joe Goldmark gave me this LP for my birthday and I’ve been listening to it for two days - which is unusual because it’s a VERY traditional jazz record and I usually play DJ at home a bit more manically. I had previously owned a Herb record but I gave it away- with all due respect- I thought it was “okay”, but not a keeper. “Thank You Charlie Christian” has great playing and a great vibe. Herb's the MAN. Thank you Joe!  |
